Have you ever heard of the term ‘high, dry and suffering’?
Have you ever heard of the term ‘hell to the no’?
This is the moment. This is the moment where you can see Mercedes’ heart just break because Sam is saying exactly what she was afraid he was going to say, “I love you Mercedes, but…”. And she completely gets it and doesn’t blame him for being upset but there was a part of her that hoped he would immediately go along with it and that would be that. But now she has deal with the reality that this could be the thing that pushes them apart for the third and it hurts.
What’s even worse is that when he calls her, she’s already talked into the head space of finding a way to be friends with this man who she loves so much. She just assumes that he’s decided he can’t and is preparing herself to deal. Which is what makes the candles scene all the more beautiful because Sam took time and thought and prayed about this, and he’s decided that as beautiful and wonderful as sex is, being with her trumps all.
